Bronze Buddha
Many years ago I was given a Small Statue of what I think is a standing Buddha Statue.?
I'm not sure what is built from what age you are. It is very heavy for its size because it is solid metal, possibly brass. The base is quite slim and looks like marble, however, seems as if added later. Certainly would appreciate if someone can give me your opinion about this statue. It is approximately 250 mm high and 70mm wide shoulder. The figure itself is depicted in a vertical position with one arm down to one side and the other arm at the elbow with the palm facing forward. The palm has some type of pattern engraved on it. The garment is a unique, but covers the left shoulder. I have pictures of the statue and can provide these if necessary. The most closest image I found on the Internet is described as a standing Buddha "probably Shakyamuni. If you go to google images and search using the parameter "figures of bronze standing Buddha", will appear at the right end of the first line of the images Thank you
It sounds like you have a statue of Buddha Amitabha. The Pure Land tradition of Mahayana Buddhism focuses on practices of Amitabha. Amitabha This tradition is very popular in China, Vietnam, Korea and Japan. Adherent repeat the name over and over again like a mantra, believing that this will lead to rebirth on earth "pure" where there is no suffering. Other events Buddha (Shakyamuni, for example) are usually represented in a sitting position. Amitabha, on the other hand, is almost always seen standing.
