I like painting pictures of wood such as Japanese Lacquer.?
Has anyone tried this? I did some Internet research and found good instructions for a final painting Supergloss motorcycles, computers, painting with a mirror finish, but never wood. until now the process involves priming, sanding a bit, use a tack cloth, spray enamel, high gloss black. Wait 2 weeks and start sanding from 400 grit and work of the project until 2000 grain. Use a grinder car and rubbing compounds, wait 2 weeks and use a paste wax. I would like to decorate the Black Lacquer and Gold Leaf only in some places, and I'm trying to figure out when applying the leaf. The leaf has glue and make the matte finish after all that work. I was thinking of putting leaf then a clear coat spray. Then, sand and polish the whole thing with the right of the gold leaf from the beginning. Basically it would be clear lacquer finish. Do you still come up to a mirror finish? Does this work?
If you're transparent layer, then you need not sanded with 2000 grit sandpaper. Grain 600 is more than enough. Pan gold, transparent cover, sand and then clear the sand layer and 2000, and wax clearcoat to a super high gloss finish. No wax before gold leaf or clear coating. Neither wax sticks. This is a long way from the traditional system that gradually involved the construction of different colors in elaborate patterns and sanded down to reveal patterns more elaborate, in a system that could take a month or more of continuous coating, sanding and polishing.
