Artificial neural networks model for grain refining in stainless steels
Austenitic stainless steels, despite their resistance to corrosion, have low yield strength. One of the most effective ways to increase the degree of efficiency without impairing good ductility is by grain refinement. Stainless steels austenitic do not exhibit any transformation during hot deformation and grain refinement that can only be achieved by recrystallization. The Using these processes, grain refinement is limited to about 10 microns [1,2]. Therefore, austenitic stainless steels are commonly subjected to cold deformation in order to increase strength. However, austenitic stainless steels are magnetic after cold deformation sufficient due to the formation of strain-induced martensite. These steels are known for their lack of magnetic properties than the first tangible characteristics, when these compared to ferritic steels and martensitic stainless steels. Therefore, these steels can not be used more as a non-magnetic materials [3].
A heuristic grain refining is called deformation induced martensitic transformation and its reversion to austenite (Simtra) has been invented. In this process, the metastable austenite can be almost completely transformed?-Martensite during cold deformation and subsequent reversion of martensite to austenite allows a marked grain refinement. Therefore, the process parameters should be carefully controlled for more than 90% cold deformation martensite [1]. Moreover, annealing conditions must be carefully controlled to obtain a fine grain fully austenitic structure [2].
In the first article, the effect of cold working temperature, amount of strain, strain rate and initial austenite grain size in the volume fraction of stress induced martensite in the alloy AISI 301 stainless steel was modeled using artificial neural networks (ANN) [1]. In the second paper, the effect of annealing temperature and time reversal of stress induced martensite to austenite in the cold worked AISI 304, Alloy Stainless steel was modeled by means of RNA [2]. In the third paper, the effect of temperature stress and strain in the fraction of volume of martensite induced by stress in cold worked AISI 304 stainless steel was modeled through the ANN. Moreover, the corresponding grain refining zone and the deformation zone of safety (for the preservation of property in non-magnetic cold working) is determined from this model [3].
Ann is a powerful tool for modeling, especially when the underlying data relationships between inputs and outputs are unknown. ANN modeling can overcome some of the difficulties associated with standard methods. For example, it is necessary to choose a (physical) relationship between the parameters before analysis [1-3].
