What were some art forms interperate Egypt?
Any list of a few and some links would be great!
Egyptian Art should be understood in cultural context. What I mean by this is that it was not art for arts sake and art tend to undestand the modern Western world - has not occurred for purely decorative. However, Egyptian art was functional in a religious sense. Egyptian art is full of references to Egyptian mythology symbols and understanding of their world. An example is the use of statues of a person to serve as a potential outlet for the soul if that person's mummy be destroyed. Another example is the presentation the human body in the form of 2 dimensions. Many people have commented on the unusual posture of the body that appears in most of the paintings and reliefs - this position was not used because the Egyptians were unable to make a "life-like" picture - however, the unusual attitude, with head, shoulders square profile, and legs worked Profile to show the important elements of most of the body at the same time. Egyptian art also tend to reflect the cosmology - or Egyptian worldviews. An example is the organization of the scenes in the temples. The exterior of most of the temples has scenes of King beating enemies. This is usually interpreted as the king to defeat the agents Chaos, in this case the traditional enemies of Egypt. Moving down into the temple, the scenes tend to reflect more focus on the gods and, depending on the temple, King's relationship with the deity. Another feature of Egyptian art is the association of writing - hieroglyphics - with other representations. Hieroglyphics, with pictorial often joined in a general article such as a large image of a person who is being used as a determinant in the name of the person. Egyptian representations people do not tend to be portrayed as - although there exceptiosn. However, most representations of specific individuals tend to show the ideal rather than reality. For this reason, men tend to have skin as shown in reddish-brown, youthful face, and muscular torso. Men also tend to be shown great strides forward, especially statues. Women, on the other hand, are usually shown as having yellow skin, a youthful face and slim figure and usually have no sense of movement in their poses. These skin tones is used regardless of what the complexion of the real person or appearance was as in life, rather than yellow or red tones reflect an ideal or a symbol of the "typical" Egyptian-ness.
