As a Buddhist, which are inherently atheistic. Deities in Buddhism are not gods and goddesses of the people in general, presented with the concept of the omnipotent creator beings. Each are Buddhas that we turn to learn from his teachings and manifestations of anger are not to scare us and scare us, but rather as a reminder of the lack of works virtuous in this life will not get you too far.
